Recognise the voice of your Fear
We all have that internal battles, such as:
- 'you should do more exercises' vs ' I don't feel like doing it now.'
- 'you should eat more of that' vs 'I don't want to.'
- 'you need to do better at that meeting' vs 'I don't feel like it.'
- 'you need to write more and show up more' vs 'I don't feel like to.'
...
The thing is, these battles can be really frustrating and draining. You try to tell yourself that you can do it, but somewhere deep inside, you feel resistance towards those tasks.
The most important thing is to ask yourself what is driving your resistance. Most of the time, it has to do with fear of some sort.
It could be fear of failure, fear of success, fear of criticism, and so on. That fear is what causes you to resist taking action on those tasks that are calling you to do them. And the problem is that the more you resist doing those things, the stronger the fear becomes and the harder it is to take action.
Recognise the voice of your fear.
You have to listen to that voice because it doesn't go away on its own. Make a conscious effort to get in touch with what feels uncomfortable or unpleasant about doing something. Try not to judge those feelings as good or bad. Instead, just acknowledge and accept them as they come up. Acknowledge the feelings of resistance and discomfort that arise when you begin a new task or project. But don't assume that those feelings are always bad or dangerous.
Sometimes a feeling is just a feeling. it's not always right or wrong. it just IS.
So how can you overcome this fear and take action anyway? One thing you can do is to begin the tasks as an experiment. You don't have to think about whether you'll succeed or fail; you just have to be willing to try and see what happens. As long as you're willing to keep going and keep trying even if things don't turn out the way you want, that's all that matters.
As long as you have the courage to take one small step at a time, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve your goals.
